“IZI by EDF” is a subsidiary of the EDF group focused on house renovation services. As a part of their innovative digital solutions, I was involved in designing a tablet app-based simulator customized for local professionals. This simulator not only aids in budget estimations but also delineates the potential energy savings that can be realized through the suggested renovation measures.
Process
Overseeing the entire process, from inception to testing, was my responsibility. The main challenge encompassed conducting comprehensive interviews with local renovation experts, who could potentially become the users of the product. These interviews informed the development of user flows, which were verified with users even in the early stages of wireframing.
I planned and executed a systematic process to deliver a Proof of Concept.
How to help local renovation professionals
accelerate communication with their clients?
With a primary focus on the core screen (3D simulation), I organized the entire user flow, encompassing various edge cases and error scenarios.
Wireframes
I pinpointed pivotal screens where users predominantly engaged with their clients. Employing an information architecture approach, I arranged UI elements in optimal positions, aligning them with user needs.
Concept sketch
Given the product's core objective, the comprehension of each renovation item was essential. I worked on refining the iconography of these central UI elements, enhancing the real-time simulation's legibility.

Prototyping
Given the proof-of-concept nature of the solution, I prioritized the initial implementation of key functions. A significant technical challenge was the 3D simulation of housing structures. Collaborating closely with developers, I managed to bridge the gap between the technical intricacies of 3D rendering and users' expectations for clear visuals.
Project selection & Basic configuration
When inputting basic information, a well-defined text hierarchy helps users in identifying crucial elements to complete. Additionally, an easily accessible sidebar facilitates ongoing configuration, while visible progression indicators at the bottom enhance the user experience.
The house plan remains as the central element throughout the process, with a easy access to floor changes and a 2D-3D switch option.
Rooms & Walls configurator
Each renovation action is automatically selected or deselected when users choose to proceed with the suggested mode. This feature enables users to swiftly compare various budget scenarios and concurrently explain them to their clients.

Takeaways
A significant lesson from this project was to avoid overestimating the benefits of digitalization when designing a B2B solution. Users have specific routines in their daily interactions with the solution. This includes using traditional notebooks for measurements and smartphones for important house photos, as well as consulting insulation catalogs when necessary. This highlighted the importance of ongoing user feedback to understand how each feature is perceived in the product.
